The Laguna – a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa Bali

I have stayed at this property in the past, about 6 years ago when it was a Sheraton-flagged property before the switch to pure Luxury Collection. I repeated my stay last week as part of a group of friends who were in Bali for a short weekend trip ahead of a work trip to Asia.

First of all, I highly recommend the hotel’s meet-and-greet service at DPS. They will have a representative meet you in the arrivals hall and organize your visa, visa payment and customs processing which ensures you avoid the long lines and wait. They’ll then transfer you to the  hotel.

We arrived about 1:30 on Saturday and our rooms were not yet ready so we had a light snack in the bar by the beach. About an hour later we were escorted to our rooms. We had booked award rooms and none of us were upgraded, but I was perfectly content with my garden king room. I don’t believe there are “bad” rooms at this property, at least not that I have seen. Ours overlooked the gardens on the south side and were exceptionally quiet.

The rooms are a bit dated, particularly the bathrooms, but still feel luxurious and well-appointed. What really stands out to me at this property is the staff. Typical of the Balinese, they are all full of smiles and ready to greet you with a friendly welcome. Even the gardeners and pool guys.

The breakfast buffet is excellent here and worth the price with fresh squeezed juices, sushi, plentiful Asian options (including Indonesian) and lots of good rolls/danishes. The fruit selection was not as plentiful as I remember it before but it might be out of season for some of them.

The pools, grounds and beach access here are really very nice. It is an excellent property to spend a few days. My two areas of suggestion for travelers considering staying here would be to review the location in Nusa Dua (make sure it works for you, it can be a long drive to the rest of the island) and to book the meet-and-greet at the airport. It is a great way to ensure the beginning of your trip is stress-free.

If you are planning a robust Bali itinerary with lots of tours and such, Nusa Dua might not be the right location for you. Investigate your options and enjoy your time in this wonderful property.
